汽车油改气的出现在很大程度上缓解了汽车尾气带来的环境压力，汽车油改气用天然气作燃料，运行稳、噪音低、不积炭，无需经常更换机油和火花塞，还能省50%以上的维修费用。但有市民认为，出租车油改气会影响发动机使用寿命。专业人士认为，天然气比汽油更容易挥发，因此在发动机中也更容易与空气混和，燃烧更彻底，与汽缸内其它零部件减少了磨损，一定程度上还能延长发动机使用寿命。
